Photography Project
During our trip through south-east Asia, we had planned a longer stay in Thailand following short few days to check out Kyoto and do some street photography in Tokyo.
On Saturday, as it was our final day, our plan was to enjoy the city to the maximum. This meant we were going to take long walks around and eat as much ramen as we could. We were on a walk in Yoyogi Park (it was cherry blossom time) when we started getting calls from our family and friends in Poland. Everybody was asking if we were ok, and if we left for Thailand already.
It turned out there was the greatest earthquake of the century in Maynmar we didn’t knew about. It was so strong, that it took down 30-story skyscraper in Bangkok, even though it was hundreds kilometers away from the epicenter.
In a second, I decided that we’re not going to take that flight as we had no idea how bad the situation in Thailand was. Our new plan was to see in Japan what we couldn’t fit in our fairly typically-tourist week-long travel plan.
Our first stop was Yawatajuku in Chiba prefecture – we went there out of curiosity, to see what’s the Japan that’s not depicted in movies or on the covers of magazines. We wanted to see a reality of people that live a bit closer to the edge of this humongous agglomeration.
Visually this mini-series is mostly documentation of.
